What Are Active Ingredients?
Do you know what you’re putting on your skin?
You may have noticed in many adverts for skincare products that the phrase “active ingredients” often crops up.
An active ingredient is one that is biologically active – so you should expect it to bring about some sort of change in your skin but this is not always necessarily a good thing – it all depends on your skin type and the product in question.
If you have ever had a reaction to a product it would be worth checking out the ingredients and either doing some research yourself (see for example, A Consumer’s Dictionary of Cosmetic Ingredients by Ruth Winter) or consulting a skincare expert to see if you can identify what ingredient it was that caused the reaction.
The more you look into it, the more you may wonder what on earth you have been exposing your skin to. Don’t forget, the skin absorbs a certain amount of what is applied to it and there are some ingredients you really might not want circulating in your system.
That’s why it’s reassuring to know that in addition to enjoying the use of your Susan Molyneux skincare products and finding them effective, you are also benefiting from formulations that contain no damaging chemicals, artificial perfumes or synthetic colours but instead, essential oils, plant extracts and minerals. Many of these will be “actives” too but reassuringly well-researched, effective and non-chemical based ones.
